30 Small Business Social Media Post Ideas

Not sure what to post for your small business today? Overall, your business needs a social media content strategy, but sometimes, you just need something to post.

So for those moments when you’re down to the wire and need help thinking of something to post today, here are 30 post ideas for small business social media.

Reel or TikTok Post Ideas

Making video posts for Tiktok and Reels for Facebook and Instagram are great ways to reach new potential customers. Make sure to shoot footage in portrait/vertical orientation, and I always recommend to use a cordless lavalier mic if you’re talking to camera.

  1. Film a pov of walking into your business and add this text on screen: POV you just found out there’s a [your business type] in [your town] that [your unique offering].
  2. Film yourself or a staff member cleaning something in your store and add some text on screen making a joke about how often you have to do it, how much you dislike having to do it, or even something relatable like, ‘if I had three wishes one would definitely be that I’d never have to dust again.’
  3. Film your process for taking down or setting up a store window display (or interior display)
  4. Film yourself picking and shipping an order
  5. Ask each of your employees the same question and film their answers (optional: use voice over to change the question and make their answers sound unhinged)
  6. Have one of your employees pick out their favorite items or services and share why they love them.
  7. Grab your best sellers for the week or month and talk about each one individually
  8. Talk to camera sharing some industry insider advice – try to make it seasonally relevant.
  9. Talk to camera and share how you solved a customer’s problem
  10. Talk to camera and answer a question people always come in and ask
  11. Talk to camera about something you wanted to do in your business because you noticed other businesses in your industry weren’t doing it
  12. What is a common problem you solve? Talk to camera and share the solution
  13. Make a video response to a comment on one of your posts (with or without tagging the comment)
  14. Post a sign on the door saying, come in dancing and [boss] buys your lunch, show the sign then film your staff coming in dancing. (this could also be customer facing for a discount or freebie)
  15. Talk to camera about something trending in your industry: a new brand or product, something in the news, or something old that’s getting popular again

While video posts are doing the best for small businesses on social media right now, we’re also seeing photo posts get great reach especially on Facebook.

If you need to do a photo post for Instagram, consider making one of these ideas into a carousel (even if it’s just two slides) or adding text overlay if it’s a single image.

  1. Post a picture of yourself or staff doing work around the store then share how that task is a part of your routine and/or how it helps you serve your customers.
  2. Take a picture of any one on staff and share what makes them special or congratulate them on an achievement / wish them a happy birthday if appropriate.
  3. Take a picture with a customer/client (with permission) and share something about your interaction with them that day.

Why these posts work for small business social media

Many of these posts lean heavily into what is called top of funnel content. This is content that is going to have the broadest appeal and is aimed at getting your content in front of the most eyeballs.

That’s okay, because that’s the type of content you want to be making the most of, but these post ideas also serve another purpose. They make you and your business familiar and endearing to your customers. It’s great to show a little bit of the behind the scenes work that might even seem boring and mundane to you.

But that’s just the kind of thing that humanizes your business and gives your social media accounts some personality. Do not be afraid to share bits of your life as a business owner and do try to highlight and talk about your staff as much as you and they are comfortable with.

Think about it like this: your customers want to do business with people, not products. So it’s always good to share at least as much about you and your staff as you do about your products and services.
