If you’re like me you spend a lot of time on Pinterest looking for design inspiration and very often I find gorgeous color pallet pins. Or say you are simply browsing the internet and you come across a beautiful photograph.
Either way, you’re inspired and you want to get the color codes to those colors to use in your own designs. It’s actually quite easy to do using Photoshop and I’m going to show you exactly how.
How to determine web color codes from an image in Photoshop.
First, find your color scheme and right click on it to copy the image.
(image above is from SwirledPeasDesigns on Etsy, using Sherwin Williams Paint Colors)
Once copied, go into your Photoshop program and click file then new. Select the clipboard option and hit the create button. Once open the page will be blank.
Simply click the control button and the V button and your copied image will paste right into your document.
Now you want to select the eyedropper tool from the menu on the left.
Click on your first color, here I chose the gray. You can see in the color swatch menu on the upper right that the gray is now the color selected.
Next click on the gray box (follow the pink arrow) and the color menu will pop up on the screen
Once at the color menu you can get the exact color code for the color you are looking for in the number box at the bottom. The code for this gray color is #999999
You also have the option to click the box for web-only colors, keep in mind this will change your color to the closest version but it may not be an exact match. Depending on what you are using your colors for unchecking the web only color box will be a great option to get the exact color match.
Once the color box menu is open you can simply click the next color and get the code from the box. The code for the aqua is #c9e7dd The code for the pink is #ef6362 and the code for the navy is #213556.
Now you have your color codes.
It’s very quick and simple to figure out the color codes from images you find on the web. Keep in mind flat colors are going to be easiest to get the exact code to.
If you are trying to pull a color from clothing or yarn or nature you may have to click around in the image a bit to get the exact color you are looking for as there are lots of variances in items like that.
